Writer's Prayer - September 2010

Holy Father God, we come to You in the name of Jesus, our Shepherd King.

We love to pray, “The Lord is my shepherd …” (Psalm 23:1). Speaking those words fills us with awe and bows us low before Your throne. We are stunned that You, Omnipotent, Omniscient Lord of all Galaxies, would set aside Your glory with Father and step down from Your majesty into the cesspool of our lives. You laid aside Your powerful scepter of authority and chose a shepherd’s rod and servant’s staff to rescue us. You searched until You found us, filthy and broken, then You gathered us into Your arms and hugged us close, whispering endearments, until Your love made us whole. We are ever grateful, Lord. Thank You.

5…for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you) [Assuredly not!]

6 So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently and boldly say, The Lord is my Helper; I will not be seized with alarm [I will not fear or dread or be terrified]. What can man do to me?

(Hebrews 13:5-6, Amplified.)

Have you ever felt alone? Or, feel like no matter what you do, no one is willing to stand by you or be there for you? Well, if you answered ‘yes’ to either question, then the problem may just be that you are relying on your five physical senses.

To feel someone near you, someone that you can touch, hear, or even see, brings comfort, protection, confidence, and even peace. What happens if you can’t see or be with someone during those times when you feel alone? Usually, depression or worry will come and make matters worse by stealing your faith and your joy.

So, what is the answer? First, we need to realize that there is someone who has promised us He is with us all the time. In Hebrews 12:5-6, God emphatically declares he will never leave us (and repeats it three times in a row).

You might think, “I don’t feel God is with me.” That is precisely where the dilemma lies—trying to feel God with you—trusting in one of the five physical senses, rather than trusting and believing in your heart and mind what God has promised. The bible tells us we are to, “Walk by faith…not by sight or appearance” (2 Corinthians 5:7 Amplified). Another verse lets us know that we can always trust and rely on God, “…because she (Sarah) considered [God] who had given her the promise to be reliable and trustworthy and true to His word” Hebrews 11:11 Amplified).

God never lies; therefore we can take His promise, and believe in our heart, despite what’s happening in our lives, that no matter how we feel, we know that God is always with us. So, be comforted and encouraged; boldly declaring the Lord is your helper. You are not alone.
