Proverbs 3:5-6 (NASB) Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And do not lean on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

The other day I woke up with a bad attitude towards life, but I didn’t understand why. My controlling nature insisted that I figure out what was going on. So, I thought hard, but I couldn’t come up with an answer.

Broken, I resorted to my Bible. I stared at it as I repeated the word understanding in my mind. “Do not to lean on your own understanding” popped into my thoughts. Did that mean I should let go and give my bad attitude to God, even if I didn’t understand it? Couldn’t I figure it out, and then give it to God?
I realized Jesus was standing before me with open arms, waiting for me to seek His shelter and comfort. I needed to spend time with Him. I needed to hear His voice and trust Him in my heart. Only He could straighten out the crooked path I was stumbling on.
I was supposed to acknowledge Him in ALL my ways. Maybe I didn’t need to understand what I was feeling after all. Maybe all I really needed was to refocus. Wasn’t it Peter who stepped out of the boat, and with his eyes focused on Jesus, was able to walk on water? But, as soon as he took his eyes from Jesus, he began to sink. I had been focusing on the wrong things. That’s why I was struggling with a bad attitude.

Lord, when we have bad attitudes, direct us to Your word. Help us to refocus. Remind us that You will give us the comfort and understanding we need.
