Writer's Prayer - September 2010

Holy Father God, we come to You in the name of Jesus, our Shepherd King.

We love to pray, “The Lord is my shepherd …” (Psalm 23:1). Speaking those words fills us with awe and bows us low before Your throne. We are stunned that You, Omnipotent, Omniscient Lord of all Galaxies, would set aside Your glory with Father and step down from Your majesty into the cesspool of our lives. You laid aside Your powerful scepter of authority and chose a shepherd’s rod and servant’s staff to rescue us. You searched until You found us, filthy and broken, then You gathered us into Your arms and hugged us close, whispering endearments, until Your love made us whole. We are ever grateful, Lord. Thank You.

Are you getting excited yet? We are.

Once again the OCW Summer Coaching Conference looks to be one of the best in the country. Plan to be part of “Journey in the Write Direction” August 2–5 at Canby Grove Conference Center in Canby, Oregon. We’re assembling a great faculty to help you on your writing journey. Whether you have been writing for years or are just getting started, the OCW Summer Coaching Conference is for you.

Prolific author Bill Myers is our keynote speaker all three evenings, and Jeff Gerke, founder of Marcher Lord Press, keynotes on Thursday morning.

Agents Bill Jensen, Chip MacGregor, and Les Stobbe have already confirmed they will be with us. This list will expand over the next few months.

Our growing list of editors (and the publisher or publication they represent) includes Alice Crider (WaterBrook/Multnomah), Suzanne Hadley Gosselin (Clubhouse Jr.), Nick Harrison (Harvest House), Bill Jensen (Eagle Rock Christian Publishers), Lin Johnson (Christian Communicator and Advanced Christian Writer), Kathleen Kerr (Zonderkidz), Sherri Langton (Bible Advocate and Now What?),Chad McComas, (The Christian Journal), Kat O’Shea (Leap Books for tweens and teens), Karen Schurrer (Bethany), Paul Smith (LIVE), Trieste VanWyngarden (DaySpring), and Joshua and Josiah Williams (WinePress Publishing).

Pro writers on the faculty so far include Bill Myers, James Scott Bell, Jeff Gerke, Randy Ingermanson, Marion Duckworth, Sally Stuart, Christina Berry, Hillary Lodge, and Leslie Gould.

Tuition this year will be $340 for members and $390 for nonmembers. We will announce lodging costs via e-mail and on the Web site, along with a registration packet, within a month or two. You can begin sending money to the OCW mailing address, 1075 Willow Lake Road N., Keizer, OR 97303, toward your conference fees. If you have sent at least $100 by March 1, 2010, you will be allowed to make your coaching class choice before registration officially opens March 10.

Looking forward to seeing you on the “Journey in the Write Direction!”
