| Writer's Prayer - September 2010 |
|
Holy Father God, we come to You in the name of Jesus, our Shepherd King. We love to pray, “The Lord is my shepherd …” (Psalm 23:1). Speaking those words fills us with awe and bows us low before Your throne. We are stunned that You, Omnipotent, Omniscient Lord of all Galaxies, would set aside Your glory with Father and step down from Your majesty into the cesspool of our lives. You laid aside Your powerful scepter of authority and chose a shepherd’s rod and servant’s staff to rescue us. You searched until You found us, filthy and broken, then You gathered us into Your arms and hugged us close, whispering endearments, until Your love made us whole. We are ever grateful, Lord. Thank You. |

OCW Economic OutlookWe creative people would like to spend all of our time writing new stories, devotionals, books, poetry, and wonderful articles. However, life also calls us to be responsible in all areas of our lives, even with money. One of my writer friends, who regularly sold short stories to Redbook when it featured fiction, was an indifferent housekeeper. If she were to let you in her house, you would see a mess of stuff, including dirty dishes, apple cores, and stacks of papers and clothes everywhere. She never knew where her money was and was very slow to deposit checks. All she wanted to do was write. Another successful writer, who wrote and sold many books and articles, managed to keep a pretty neat house, though it might be messy a few days before a deadline. She managed her money well. Both were creative, wonderful writers. Your OCW officers are trying hard to keep our “OCW house” neat and effective, as well as supply opportunities for you to benefit from creative conferences and contacts with top people in the writing and publishing fields. The October conference was about $800-plus more costly than the previous year. We have been told this will be true of all venues. The new one-day conference fees will provide sufficient income in the checking and savings accounts to cover all costs. The objectives of OCW are for members to be writing and selling materials for a world hungry to hear the genuine “Good News” of His Gospel. It is working! You are creating and selling; your membership records are well kept; the bank account is stable; and the accountants file the necessary reports and papers while your president, Mary Hake, stays on top of it all. Regardless of what may be happening to the world’s economy, OCW is sound. Many of you have paid your dues for the October 2009–September 2010 membership year. If you haven’t paid them yet, please send them to the OCW mailing address. You can use the registration form in this newsletter to do so, even if you’re unable to come to the conference in February. Thank you for your promptness. Our checking and savings accounts show healthy balances that will cover payments for the newsletters, fees and services, and upcoming conferences. Isn’t God good? |
