Minding OCW’s Business
by Sue Miholer

At the October 17 business meeting, the OCW membership approved the board’s motion to create the position of business manager to handle the required business dealings of the organization. I am honored to have been appointed by the board to become the OCW business manager. Many of my responsibilities are those I oversaw as membership secretary, but the new position also includes signing contracts as a representative of the organization, overseeing the finances (the treasurer continues to write all the checks and communicates that information to the accountants), as well as other business-related functions.

New Members’ Dues

The OCW board has set a new policy for membership fees for those who join during the second half of our fiscal year. Those joining between March 1 and September 30 will pay one-half the cost of a full year’s membership rather than the full year’s dues. This will integrate new members into the October–September fiscal year cycle. “Half-year” memberships are meant to be purchased only by those joining for the first time, not for lapsed members who are late renewing.

Check for a Date by Your Address
Please look to see if there is a date by your mailing address on this newsletter. If there is no date, or if it is a date earlier than 10/1/10, you are not a current member and you need to either renew or join in order to continue receiving the newsletter and the members’ rate for OCW conferences.

Bylaws Update
The board is revising the bylaws with the intention of finishing the process in time for a membership vote at the May conference business meeting. This has been a very deliberate process in order to produce a set of bylaws that will serve OCW well in the coming years. When the revision is finalized, copies will be available on the Web site and via e-mail for members to review. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact any officer.

E-Mails to Members
Nora and Arlen Peacock are now sending out the all-member e-mails and helping me with some other computer-based issues. Thank you, Nora and Arlen.
