Minding OCW’s Business

by Sue Miholer, OCW Business Manager

miholer.jpgNote that we are now in the second half of our fiscal and membership year, so purchasing a new membership between now and September 30 is one-half the annual price. See the reduced amounts on the registration page. These rates are for those who are joining for the first time, not those who have allowed their memberships to lapse.

Some of you do just the opposite and include a dues payment almost every time you register for a conference and are now paid up through September 2011, and a few through 2012. Please do not send your dues unless the date by your name in the address section of this newsletter is 10/1/09 or earlier—or if there is nothing there at all.

The board is putting the finishing touches on the revised bylaws and will have copies of the new version available both at the May conference and on the Web site. All members will also receive an e-mail with the proposed bylaw wording attached. Those without computer access may request a hard copy.

As I settle in as business manager, I have a little better understanding of how things work and how to involve volunteers in using their abilities on behalf of OCW. For instance, Nora and Arlen Peacock are sending out the all-members e-mails on behalf of the board as well as converting my registration information into a file I can use to print nametags.

While visiting with Sally Stuart at the book table, I noticed the sorry state (read that “old and beat up”) of her cashbox. She has no idea how long she has had the converted tool/tackle box. OCW purchased her a brand-new locking cashbox.

Right now we’re stockpiling binders for the summer conference. Debbie Rempel has graciously offered to store them for us.

I soon will be identifying additional ways others who have volunteered can help us and just might be tapping some of you on the shoulder for assistance.
