Writer's Prayer - September 2010

Holy Father God, we come to You in the name of Jesus, our Shepherd King.

We love to pray, “The Lord is my shepherd …” (Psalm 23:1). Speaking those words fills us with awe and bows us low before Your throne. We are stunned that You, Omnipotent, Omniscient Lord of all Galaxies, would set aside Your glory with Father and step down from Your majesty into the cesspool of our lives. You laid aside Your powerful scepter of authority and chose a shepherd’s rod and servant’s staff to rescue us. You searched until You found us, filthy and broken, then You gathered us into Your arms and hugged us close, whispering endearments, until Your love made us whole. We are ever grateful, Lord. Thank You.

Matthew 12:22-28

Every city or household divided against itself will not stand. Matthew 12:25

Jan did a double take. Wasn't that Beth coming out of that R-rated movie noted for its portrayal of sex and foul language? Strange. Beth had told Jan that she was a Christian and believed the Bible. Well, maybe Beth hadn't known how bad the movie would be.

A few weeks later, while at work in the doctor's office, Jan saw Beth's name scheduled for an abortion. She thought, Beth must believe what the media says: Free choice over her body is a woman's right. Maybe it's alright after all. Is Jesus for real, or what?

How easily Satan's lies permeate our society and our thoughts. I cannot listen to them and to Christ, too. If I am a temple of the Lord, each time I weaken and believe Satan's lies, another chink in the mortar of my foundation crumbles. Each word of Scripture absorbed into my heart and head, however, repairs and rebuilds a firmer foundation and I am strong against the foe.

Let Christ banish our demons.
