Writer's Prayer - September 2010

Holy Father God, we come to You in the name of Jesus, our Shepherd King.

We love to pray, “The Lord is my shepherd …” (Psalm 23:1). Speaking those words fills us with awe and bows us low before Your throne. We are stunned that You, Omnipotent, Omniscient Lord of all Galaxies, would set aside Your glory with Father and step down from Your majesty into the cesspool of our lives. You laid aside Your powerful scepter of authority and chose a shepherd’s rod and servant’s staff to rescue us. You searched until You found us, filthy and broken, then You gathered us into Your arms and hugged us close, whispering endearments, until Your love made us whole. We are ever grateful, Lord. Thank You.

They were helped in fighting them, and God handed the Hagrites and all their allies over to them, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him. (1 Chronicles 5:20)

44,760 men waged war against an army of over 100,000, on their enemy's home turf. The odds were not with them, but God was. In the midst of battle they cried out to God for help, trusted Him for victory, and received it.

The principle defined in the above verse applies to each of us in the conflicts and temptations we’re engaged in. Day to day struggles sometimes seem overwhelming. A man loses his job and has difficulty locating another to support his family. A mother, up all night with a sick child, finds it difficult to remain calm when her children fight at breakfast. A student battles the temptation to cheat on a test.
The solution to life's battles lies not in relying on our own power, which often means defeat, but in crying out to God and trusting Him for the strength to endure until victory is gained.

Prayer Suggestion: Lord, the next time I'm struggling with a problem, help me to remember that You are with me, waiting for me to ask for Your strength and help.
